Connector Optics has made a contract for construction of its own industrial facility in the Parnas industrial area in St. Petersburg with A Plus Development who will be the contractor general for this facility. The main subcontractor for construction of clean rooms and delivery and assembly of technical equipment will be Everest Stroy.

The facility will comprise a number of rooms with over 1,000 sq.m total area, of which about 300 sq.m will be clean rooms equipped with industrial equipment for molecular beam epitaxy. This will be the place for mass production of epitaxial heterostructures based on gallium arsenide for ultraspeed active optical components and other semiconductor devices.

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and photodetectors by Connector Optics enable up to 40 Gbit/sec speed of optic fiber data transfer per channel with a low-cost emitter. This is a record rate compared to global analogs.

Such devices will be used in fiber optic communication lines of the next generation, in particular, optical interconnections of super computers, data centers, HDMI and Display Port optic cables, and USB cables of the future.

At present, Connector Optics is the only manufacturer of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers in Russia.

The production is expected to be launched in May 2011.
